Italy is falling  and I’m riding it upside down

July 28th 2005. poetry: terrace on milano

in the everyday faint glimmer of dawn
plants resting on the terrace, resting things left
across the cement valley buzz of crows and falcons
  and shrill
as later will pigeons and sparrows
and mosquitoes still wandering, dazed
up by all the blood drunk tonight in the opened window houses
up no clouds of the ones that'll come
everything being the very same banal new day
laid on the boundless city always rumbling at distance,
milano, solitary trees along the avenue beltways,
satellite dishes and laundry hung out,
terraces crammed with plants and rubbish or empty,
just chair, burnt out lamp,
closet cluttered with torn deckchairs
abandoned the day the city unbearable ugliness prevailed
and me, pouring another cup of green tea to me
feeling I'm not myself sucking up cautiously the hot water
it's someone else awake into my body, who manhandles me
in the rumble the tram rattling is tellable
the drill of a motorbike accelerating
the sounding rear gear of a delivering van
it's tellable the broom rustle on the sidewalk
  or the courtyard
courtyards of garbage, of bicycles
of lenghtwise parked cars and forgotten plants
  in the shades
milano courtyards, occasional repositories
of soul deserted steps are tellable.
